All-Christmas Radio
The 2005 Christmas holiday season is quickly approaching and radio stations are gearing up for their All-Christmas formats. We've been working the phones talking with the program and music directors about adding songs from the Tiny Angles - Songs Of Christmas Joy Christmas CD. We've put together press kits highlighting the CD and songwriters. Each press kit has been designed for the local area that the songwriter is located. We're hoping the local connection will spark some interest in these radio stations.
How All-Christmas Stations Fared In 2004
Sean Ross, Edison Media Research’s Vice President of Music and Programming, began tracking the performance of all-Christmas stations a year ago. He looked at what kind of boost Christmas formats were providing stations in the fall, and at how those stations tracked throughout the year. They were trying to get a sense both of whether holiday music, despite its apparent saturation, was still potent, and what sort of effect “breaking format” was having on those stations down the line: was Christmas helping the franchise or diminishing it?
Of the 125 stations in the Top 100 markets that went all-Christmas in 2004, 74% were up, 19% were down, and 7% were flat. That’s better than 2003’s all-Christmas stations, 68% up, 26% down, 6% flat. The average gain for an all-holiday station in 2004 was 0.7 12-plus shares, a little better than 2003’s 0.5. On FM, the average gain was 0.8 vs. 2003’s 0.7.
We will post any radio station adds as they happen!

The most recent songs that we have signed to
single-song publishing contracts are:
"Hideaway" co-written by Sean Kealy, Jen Mangum &
Scott Word.

Hank Reeves.
If you haven't visited our Song Catalog and listened to these new
songs, please do.
- Immediate Song Need!
We still have an immediate need for music for the following film project:
This is for a University of Texas (UT) student. This film, Jo FM is for her graduate school pre-thesis film. This project required the students to shoot the film on Super 16mm which consumed almost all of the the $6,000 production budget. The funding for this film came from student loans.
Song Need Description: Looking for a song a la Morrissey's Everyday Is Like Sunday. It is extremely important that the song match the anathematic tone of the first 30 seconds of Everyday Is Like Sunday.
Music Supervisor: Dominique Preyer
Director: Jenn Garrison
Production Company: GinJar Productions
Film Title: Jo FM
Length: :30 to :45 seconds
Trailer: Jo FM
Scene Description: In the closing scene of the film, the DJ that was kidnapped returns to work and as an act of defiance, plays this song. She is also trying to connect with her captor with the use of the song.
Compensation:
* Due to this film being a low-budget student film, no up front licensing fees are available; gratis license needed.
* Songwriter/Publisher retains 100% of all song rights.
* Deferred Synch and Master fee payment if the film gets distribution or generates revenues
* On-Screen credit.
* IMDb credit.
* Website credit.
* Film Festival exposure.
* A Cue Sheet will be submitted to ASCAP, BMI and/or SESAC.
We've received several submissions from members of Just Plain Folks.
- Need Songs In Other Genres
The bulk of the songs we receive fall into the Country genre. We would
like to expand into other genres such as Pop, R&B, and Adult
Contemporary (AC). We do get a small volume of songs in these genres,
but just not enough or songs we feel we can pitch or place.
Please send your non-Country tunes. If you have songwriter friends
who right songs that are not Country, please tell them about us.
Please continue sending your Country!

Copyright: Registering Two Or More Songs
Two or more unpublished songs, song lyrics, or other musical works may be registered with one application and fee, but only under certain conditions stated in the Copyright Office regulations. One of those conditions is that the copyright owner or owners must be the same for all the songs. Copyright belongs to the author and can be transferred only by a written agreement or other legal means. If there has been no transfer and the songs are by different authors, this copyright ownership requirement has not been met. An additional requirement is that there must always be at least one author common to all the songs, even if there has been a transfer of ownership.
In the following examples, the musical works can be registered with one application:
1. Al wrote the music and Sue wrote the lyrics to each of eight songs.
2. Sue wrote the music and Al and Larry wrote the lyrics to each of four songs.
In the following examples, the musical works cannot be registered with one application:
1. Al wrote the lyrics and music to three songs and co-wrote lyrics and music to four songs with Sue. (No transfer has taken place.)
2. Sue wrote the music for six songs; Al wrote the lyrics to two of the songs, and Larry wrote the lyrics to four of the songs.
Space 1 of the application should give a collection title. You may also give the individual titles. The collection title should also appear on the deposit copy or phonorecord.
Space 2 of the application should name all the individuals who contributed authorship to the musical works in the collection. If the authors are members of a performing group, you may state this after each name. Naming only a performing group as author does not clearly identify the authors.
When a group of unpublished works is registered as a collection, only the collection title will appear in the catalogs and indexes of the Copyright Office. Individual titles will appear in Copyright Office records only if each work is registered separately or if an application for supplementary registration is submitted to specify the individual titles in a collection. An application for supplementary registration may not be submitted until a certificate of registration has been issued for the collection. For more information on supplementary registration, please request Circular 8, "Supplementary Copyright Registration," and application Form CA.

The Spin Cycle Will Screen At LA's FilmSponsor
The Spin Cycle has been selected to screen at the Independent Film Sponsorship (FilmSponser).
The event is hosted by FilmSponsor, Bang Improv Studio
and FilmRadar.com, where they will show two sets of short films - a mix
of mostly comedy and a little drama. The location is Elm Loft, which
is north of downtown - near the Echo Park/Silver Lake/Atwater Village
area. I'm pasting the event details, and attaching a photo of the venue.
Independent Film Sponsorship is putting a unique spin on the
familiar festival platform by sponsoring customized screenings of
selected films. It's a simple design focused on individually showcasing
each film, offering equal time and exposure to all feature
presentations. Their success as an organization depends entirely on
the success of each and every film, which lies in bridging the gap
between the film and its audience. Their ultimate goal is a continued,
all-access viewing circuit for independent films, with or without
distribution.
Event details:
Sunday, November 13th
7:00-10:00 PM
$8 General Admission; $5 w/ student ID

RSVP encouraged, but please be sure to cancel if you are unable to attend. To RSVP, click here.
Seeking Music Composer Reels!
When performing as Music Supervisor, I need the services of a good music composer. In order to be better prepared for future film projects, I would like to see what you have done. If you would like to be considered for upcoming projects, please send me your composer reels so I can review your work. Please include a resume and cover letter describing yourself and your work. I will post all future film projects on both our Spin Cycle Films and Play Any Key Music sites.
Jessie's Dream Snake - Update
If you are interested in receiving more information about investing in the Jessie's Dream Snake feature film, please send us an e-mail. We will gladly send you an Investment Offering Package. This package will include the Business Plan, Private Placement Memorandum (PPM), Subscription Agreement and Discloser Document. In this package you will find all the details pertaining to the making of Jessie's Dream Snake.
Music cues have been slowly coming in. We will be listening to these songs as they arrive and making decisions on them. We will not respond unless we feel a song may be close to what we are looking for. We may select several songs for the same scene and then make the final decision during post-production. If we do feel your song meets our needs, we will let you know.
Music Licensing Details:
* Licenses will be non-exclusive.
* Synch and Master fees will be paid.
* A cue sheet will be forwarded to ASCAP, BMI or any other performing rights organization that a song may be registered with.
More details on what you need to do to ensure your song has a chance to make it into this film can be found on our Songs Needed page or on our Spin Cycle Films' Music Cues page.
