Myspace...
We were bitten by the Myspace bug! It was, after all, not a bad bite. We blame it on Mo Collins (Mad TV, 40 Year Old Virgin). She raved about it at SXSW so we decided to check it out. As a result, we launched the new Tiny Angels - Songs Of Christmas Joy Myspace page. You can read more about this page below.
I have also created a Myspace page that is a consolidation of my music and film responsibilities. My goal with this page is to bring more songwriters, band, musicians, filmmakers, record labels and other film and music business people together in one spot. There's a huge network to work with, to include music and film forums and groups.

Are you a Myspacer?
If you'd like to become a friend, please visit both Myspace pages and put in a friend request. We'll add you! It's all about networking!

Music Licensing And The Filmmaker!
What is music clearance and licensing? Music clearance is the process of getting permission to use someone's music in your film. This (and getting paid) is probably the most important part of the music licensing process. Many filmmakers believe "Fair Use". It's only fair if the owner of the composition grants you the right to use their property. They own the copyright. They own the right to decide if they want their music in someone else's film.
There is no compulsory ruling when dealing with synchronization rights. In the music recording world, you can record your own version of a song on your CD without getting permission from the copyright owner. You must however pay the songwriter and publisher the mechanical licensing fees.
In the film world, you must get permission to use a song first. If the owner of the song does not want you to use their song in their film, you must honor that and not use it. If the copyright owner of the song agrees to let you use their song in your film, all parties involved can negotiate a fee. This could be free (or gratis) use of the song. It could be a small fee or a very expensive fee. You must decided it you want to pay that asking amount and the songwriter must decide how bad they want their song in your film. The songwriter must keep in mind that on low budget films there my be no synch and master fees left in the budget. There is however the opportunity to receive performance royalties which can exceed the little amount you might get on the front end.
